Kareem Siddiqui (Squidiki)
Textile artist, fiber sculptor, and practicing witch, Kareem explores the intersection of ritual, the surreal, and metaphysical exploration through appliqué wall art and textile sculpture. Their practice engages occult frameworks using divination, spellwork, and astrology as conceptual tools, embodied processes, and alternative ways of knowing. Coming from a Muslim background in the American Bible Belt, they found comfort in alternative spiritual paths as a way to break away from a stifling conformity. Their whimsicraft aesthetic pulls together found objects that juxtapose Kareem’s soft fabric medium sewn by hand. Kareem’s interest in textile stem from its history in antiquity, a medium associated with fate and storytelling.
